Several traditions of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) indicate the virtue of this night; therefore the scholars of Fiqh have mentioned that it is desirable to offer prayers in this night:
ومن المندوبات ۔۔ احیاء لیلۃ العیدین والنصف من شعبان الخ (الدر المختار مع الشامی: 2/469)
But, cooking good food and lighting candles on this occasion is nothing, it has no base in Islam.
