    Title: Zakat

Question: (1) What is the limit of zakah amount to be given to a single person? For example: can we give a large amount of 10,000/- or 15,000/- to a single person who is eligible for zakah. What is the maximum amount that can be given to an individual as a whole? (2) I heard that it is preferable to give zakah to our relatives if they are financially weak. My maternal uncle (mama) and aunt (khala) are financially weak but they are SYED, so what is the procedure so that they can be benefitted by this amount. I understand that zakah and sadaqah is the filth in one’s wealth which is given out to purify ones earning. The honour of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam and his noble family should not be tainted by the filth of our wealth, but in today’s world how can we uplift the financial status of SYED.

    Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

(Fatwa: 1264/863/L=11/1434) (1) Zakah amount should be given in such volume that the person who takes it does not turn owner of nisab. If someone does not turn owner of nisab if given 10 or 15 thousand rupees then you may give him this amount in zakah. It is makrooh to give someone zakah amount by which the person becomes owner of nisab. (2) It is not lawful to give zakah to a Sayyid. You may support Sayyid people with nafl sadaqah and charity etc.
