Question: My dad spent around 30 lakhs to construct our home. Should he pay zakah of the home?

Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

(Fatwa: 920/872/N=1434) If the house is not constructed for sale, whether it is built for residence or rent then zakah shall not be wajib on it though it costs too much. However, in case it is given on rent then whatsoever will be received as rent it shall be combined with gold, silver or other currency which is in your father’s possession then zakah shall be wajib on it as per the rule, provided nisab is complete and one year has already passed over it.
