    Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

(Fatwa: 196/155/D=01/1435) It is sunnah to urinate while sitting and you should practice the same as it carries more purity and there is less doubt of involvement of body and clothes while using water. However, if you don’t have any way of doing it while sitting then you are allowed to urinate standing provided the splashes of urine do not fall on the body or clothes. If at the time of istinja and cleanliness the impurity increases more than one dirham then the use of water is necessary. But if the impurity does not exceed from its place then the use of water and paper is mustahab. It is sad that in a country like Indonesia there is no arrangement of sitting urinal especially in the mosque. It is regretful that they have advanced so much in copying the west that the sunnah practice is ignored collectively. At least there should be the arrangement of Shariah taharah in the mosques.
