    Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

(Fatwa: 1062/D=164/K=1432) (1) It is lawful to do masah (wet wiping) on leather socks, but doing masah on nylon or cotton socks is unlawful. If one has worn the leather socks after wudhu, a muqim person can do masah on leather socks from the time of breaking wudhu up to 24 hours. And if wudhu is broken during these 24 hours, it is lawful for him to do masah over leather socks, but it is better to put them off and wash the foot. المسح على الخفين جائز بالسنة ، والأخبار فيه مستفيضة حتى قيل: إن من لم يره كان مبتدعاً لكن من رأه ثم لم يمسح أخذاً بالعزيمة كان ماجوراً (هدايه : 1/40 طهارة، المسح على الخفين) (2) Hadhrat Ibn Umar (رضى الله عنه) narrates that Hadhrat Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to wear white topi (cap). It was narrated by Tabrani. Allama Suyuti (رحمة الله عليه) has written in Jame al-Saghir that its sanad is Hasan. (Al-Siraj al-Munir, Vol. 4, p. 112) Hadhrat Ayesha (رضى الله تعالى عنها) narrates that the holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to wear topi covering ears when he was in a journey and a thin (Syrian) topi when he was in station. Iraqi (رحمة الله عليه) said that this is the best sanad regarding topi. (Faiz al-Qadir Vol. 5, p. 246) The holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: A person who is in ihram should not wear shirt, turban, trousers and (a type of) topi. (Bukhari, 1/209, 2/864) In the light of such hadiths we learn that it was the habit of the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) to wear topi. He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to wear it in a journey and while in station. Also wearing topi was a common tradition at the time of holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم). Hence the scholars of Fiqh have declared it makrooh to offer salah bareheaded. وكره صلاته حاسراً أي كاشفاً رأسه (درمختار مع الشامى زكريا: 2/407) But if sometime any one due to high humility and humbleness offers salah without covering his head then it is not makrooh as it is mentioned in Dur al-Mukhtar. ولا بأس به للتذلل (ايضاً) But usually this state is missing in general condition; therefore it is makrooh to develop the habit of offering salah bareheaded.
