Title: Joining the congregation late in Fard Salah

Question: Due to some reasons I reached Masjid late for my fardh salah. When I joined the congregation, I found that the Jamat was in Sajda. I silently joined the Salah. My question is based on this situation. Please guide me if I am late then up to what position I can catch my rakat? Although, it is advisable to reach Masjid earlier to avoid such situation but at times it is beyond control. Please advise.

One should join imam in whatsoever state he is in jamat. In the question mentioned above, if the imam was in sajdah and you joined him in sajdah after saying takbir tahrimah then you did right and if you stood waiting the imam and did not join him in sajdah then too your salah was valid.

يستفاد:لو اقتدى بالإمام بعد ما رفع الإمام رأسه من الركوع صرح قاضي خان في فتاويه بأن عليه المتابعة في السجدتين وإن لم يحتسباله وصرح به في العمدة وصرح في الذخيرة بأن المتابعة فيهما واجبة ومقتضاه أنه لو تركهما لا تفسد صلاته وقد توقفنا في ذلك مدة حتى رأيت في التجنيس معز يا إلى فتاوى أئمة سمرقند أنه لا تفسد لو ترك وعبارته رجل انتهى إلى الإمام وقد سجد سجدة فكبر ونوى الاقتداء به ومكث قائما حتى قام الإمام ولم يتابعه في السجدة ثم تابعه في بقية الصلاة فلما فرغ الإمام قام وقضى ما سبق به تجوز الصلاة إلا أنه يصلى تلك الركعة الفائتة بسجدتيها بعد فراغ الإمام وإن كانت المتابعة حين يشرع واجبة في تلك السدة اهـ.
