Question: My daughter's name is Zaariah Shakhawat. Is it a good Islamic name? What is the meaning of Zaariah and Shakhawat. Please reply.

(Fatwa: 488/458/N=1434) According to Arabic language, the meaning of Zariah (زاریہ) is not good. It means: a woman who finds faults, one who disdains someone, one who rebukes, etc كذا في تاج العروس (38: 215-216) ومصباح اللغات (ص 337). Hence you should change the name of your daughter and keep any good and meaningful name.
