Question: (1) The marriage can be done in function hall or mosque due to so many people tell do marriage only in function hall because the mosque will become dirty. (2) The girl’s parents ask boy’s parents that how much money/home needs/bike etc do you take. Is this type of contact right?

Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

(Fatwa: 1039/808/D=09/1435) It is sunnah to perform nikah in the mosque. It is mentioned in one hadith: اعلنوا بالنكاح واجعلوه فى المساجد. However, it is necessary to maintain the etiquette of the mosque. One should maintain simplicity in the feast etc beside nikah like throwing grand party and inviting more and more people and arranging verities of dishes as well as mixing of men and women. All these things should also not be done in function halls as well. Hence the mosque should not be used to feed and stay the barat. Nikah should be done during the salah time or in other time. It is forbidden to do such things which make the mosque dirty and cause lots of noise. (2) One may give whatsoever one wishes as per one’s capacity and pleasure. But it is baseless custom to have contract or consider it necessary to give it on the day of marriage and make list of dowry, it should be removed. There is much time ahead in life for giving hadiya, gift or good conduct; you may fulfill your desire then.
