Title: I have been married for the past 30 years. My younger brother is married to my wife's younger sister.

Question: I have been married for the past 30 years. My younger brother is married to my wife's younger sister. We have three sons two of whom are married. Two years ago I committed a great sin, which my wife came to know about. Since then she is not having ANY SORT OF CONTACT WITH ME. We live in the same house but she lives in a different room and I live in a different room. I am now treated almost as an outcast by the other family members who only speak to me out of absolute necessity. I bear the household expenses as before i.e. I give the monthly expenses to my youngest son who then hands it over to my wife. Nobody in the family, including me, wants a divorce even though my wife has made it absolutely clear that she will not have anything to do with me as long as she lives. IS OUR MARRIAGE STILL VALID AND WILL IT CONTINUE TO REMAIN SO IN THE PRESENT CONDITIONS? I AM WILLING TO BEAR THE HOUSEHOLD EXPENSES.CAN I MARRY ANOTHER WOMAN WITHOUT ASKING MY WIFE'S PERMISSION?

    Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

(Fatwa: 845/000/M=1432) If you did not give any talaq and no khula took place, then your nikah is intact as usual. Whatever sin you committed you should do tauba from it and make your wife understand with wisdom and politeness that she should continue her relationship with you and it is forbidden in Shariah to break the relationship of marriage. As per Shariah, there is no need to take permission from your first wife, but equality between two wives is wajib. It is very difficult to maintain it. Also, already thirty years have passed at first marriage; so in this age you should regain your relationship with your first wife and live your rest of life with her instead of having a second marriage.
