Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !
(Fatwa: 78/43/SD=1/1443)
Mahr is right of wife which is wajib on husband, so Mahr will be decided by the husband or his auliya (guardians) for which the consent of the wife will be required. Nowadays, usually the auliya of husband and wife fix Mahr with their mutual decision and then the consent of both is obtained by explaining the Mahr in front of them. Bride's family should not interfere in this matter as who has fixed Mahr. If the bride or her auliya agree to the fixed Mahr, then it is enough, whether the husband has fixed Mahr or his auliya, the husband should agree to it only.
