Title: Offering Jumuah Salah in University or College

Question: The Muslim Student's Organization in the European or American universities arranges Jumuah prayers in places like an open field, college auditorium etc. Some college's MSA (Muslim Students Association) organizes Jumuah prayers in a fixed room. Is it permissible?

It is permissible rather it is better to offer Jumuah salah in an open field or in a large hall. And Jumuah salah can also be offered in a room. However, in both the cases, it is a condition that no one from the campus of the university or college is barred from joining, rather everyone should be allowed to join the congregation. It should be noted that in the above-mentioned case, Jumuah salah will be valid only when the university and college are in the city or in the surroundings of city or in a big village with a permanent population of three to four thousand and which is like a township and where daily necessities are available. It is not lawful to offer Jumuah salah in a village smaller than this.
