Title: Can bank interest be used in free public welfare work?

Question: (1) Can bank interest money be given to a poor Muslim? (2) I am planning to buy an ambulance for public welfare. Can I use bank interest money with the money I have kept for buying ambulance for poor & needy? Please guide me.

(Fatwa: 390/312/B=3/1439)

(1) Yes, you may give him.

(2) It is not lawful to include interest amount in the amount which you have saved for buying ambulance. It is not lawful to spend interest money for public welfare.
