Title: Milad

Question: I am from Chennai. In our hometown now people started celebrating Milad-e-Nabi and form the first day of Rabiul Awwal, people use to read the Mawlid Kitab as sacred as the Holy Quran until 12th of the same month. Please tell me is there any HASANAS for reading these types of book and confirm me whether it is Halal or Haram?

Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

(Fatwa: 358/272/H=1434) It is unlawful to read Mawlid Kitab in the said dates considering it as sacred as the holy Quran; rather this practice must be given up. It is unlawful to practice this custom. Neither this custom is proved from the holy Quran, Hadith nor from the holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and the Sahaba (رضوان الله عليهم اجمعين). Our elderly Ulama (رحمهم الله) have also not adopted it.
