    Title: share of daughter/granddaughter

Question: My grandfather had two wives and children from both of them. Children from his first wife (who died in his lifetime), migrated and took citizenship in other countries and have conveyed that they are not interested in inheritance. My father is only child from his second wife. He was a minor at the time of his father’s death and whole property was looked after by my grandmother. My grandfather inherited large landed property from his father and same is continuing in our family, we had no other source of income. We are three brothers and one sister (me). My grandmother passed away a year back and she has divided complete property equally among my father and brothers. I have not received any share citing Islamic law. Please advice my share in the light of Shariah. It may be noted that my grandmother did not have any property of her own and inherited my grandfathers property.

    Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

(Fatwa: 1092/1088/B=11/1436) Your grandmother has divided her property among her children and grandchildren during her lifetime. It is not division of inheritance rather it is hibah (gift). She should have given equal share to the grandsons and granddaughters but we do not know why she deprived you. However, whatsoever share she divided and made them its sole owner then they all became the owner of their shares.
