Title: My wife is having 640 grams Gold ornaments. Last year I have calculated and paid zakath for this. This year I purchased 16 grams of gold ornament. Now I have 2 questions : (1). Last year I paid zakath for 640 grams, so Is it farz to pay this year also ? or is it enough to pay zakath for only the newly bought 16 grams gold? or to pay zakath for the whole 640 16 grams? (2). Is it Farz for the husband to pay zakath for wife's Gold ornaments ?

(Fatwa: 1431/970/L=1431)

(1) If you made the jewellery of 16 gm gold and gifted it to your wife then it shall be wajib on your wife to pay the Zakah of 16 640 gm gold. It will not suffice to pay only the Zakah of 16 gm gold.
(2) The husband is not responsible to pay the Zakah of the jewellery of wife but it is up to the wife to pay it herself though by selling the jewellery. However if the husband pays the zakah on behalf wife after her permission, it shall be paid.
