Title: Zakat

Question: Alhamdulillah my son got admission in medicine. My husband runs the house with his earnings. I save my monthly salary to pay fees for my kids. My son’s yearly fees is huge and every month I have to deposit my entire salary to be paid at the end of year. Do I have to give zakah for the money saved for his fees? We have to pay the fees for four more years. My husband has a lot of debts. I can give him zakah money to help him pay his debts. Can you please answer my queries at the earliest.

Whatsoever you save from your salary if it becomes equal to 52.5 tola silver nisab or more and one complete year passes over it then it is necessary for you to pay its fortieth part as zakah once in a year. The husband cannot give zakah money to his wife nor his wife can give to him. Yes she can help her husband with other amount.
