Question: Can a menstruating woman read Ayatul Kursi and 4 Quls surahs before going to bed because it is Sunnah? I heard that if a menstruating woman reads even a single ayah then she will be cursed. So what should I do recite them or not and I also want to know can she recite ayat-e-karimah during these days?

    Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

(Fatwa: 212/227/N=1433) A menstruating woman can read the verses which bear the meaning of dua or glorification or attribute of Allah as dua, glorification of Allah and zikr. However, a menstruating woman is not allowed to read the verses which contain the command and prohibition of Allah, the story of any past event or information about the event happening in future, likewise the recitation of the first type of verses with the intention of reciting Quran is not lawful. In the light of the above-mentioned principle, in the state of menstruation if you recite Ayatul Kursi and three Quls (Surah Ikhlas, Surah Falaq and Surah Nas) before sleeping with the intention that these verses mention the attributes of Allah and you intend to seek protection from Jinn and satan and do not have any intention of the holy Quran at all then it is allowable. You may read these duas in the state of menstruation. Yes, you cannot recite Surah Kafiroon because it does not bear the mention of dua, praise, glorification or the attribute of Allah.
