Question # : 58743

India

In initial years I had performed Umrahs and due to ignorance I did not trim my hair at least by 1/4th . In those instances due to misguidance I cut hairs which are a few in numbers. Do I have to give dam (sacrificing goat)? If yes, do I have to sacrifice goat in Makkah only or may I do anywhere? Please note this was done due to ignorance. Now-a-days after Umrah I used to cut at least 1/4th of my hair. Kindly reply.

(Fatwa: 439/404/SN=07/1436)

The ihram of all those umrahs which you took off by cutting a few hair, you did not come out of the ihram of those umrahs as per the Shariah. Yes, when later on you learnt the ruling and became halal after performing umrah as per Shariah(first time),then you came out of the previous ihrams as well. However, you will have to offer one dam (slaughtering animal) for each umrah whose ihram you took off by cutting a few hair. This dam shall suffice for whatsoever unlawful acts you performed between one umrah to another. Also you put on the ihram of other umrah while you did not come out of the ihram as per the Shariah, then one more dam will also be necessary on you due to combining two umrahs. It is mandatory to offer these two dams in the boundary of Haram. It is mentioned in Inayah:
